THE FLYING DUTCHMAN

An electro-acoustic instrument built for film and deeper sonic explorations.

Lodewijk Vos built the Flying Dutchman to explore texture, tension, and atmosphere in his film scores. Inspired by European experimental music labs such as EMS in Sweden and GRM in France, it brings physical sound-making and electronic processing together in a single, hands-on instrument.

Built from wood and roughly the size of a small mixing desk, its body acts as a giant microphone. Embedded pickups capture every touch, bow, and scrape, turning small gestures into expressive sounds. Built-in effects and synthesis let him transform those sounds as he plays, developing a distinctive musical voice for each story. Lodewijk Vos designed it to be highly modular, so he can build and integrate new add-ons for each project, expanding its sounds and possibilities as the work evolves.

Named after the legendary ghost ship and Lodewijk Vos’s Dutch roots, the Flying Dutchman makes the search for a film’s sound part of the performance, a way to discover unexpected textures and give shape to the emotions beneath a scene.

DEATH OF THE SUN

An immersive experience where the observer will witness a massive sculpture of the sun as it progresses through its life cycle. A deeply personal and highly evocative meditation on human mortality and people’s individual place in the universe, this installation portrays the death of the star that sustains this planet.

THE SPACE BETWEEN YOU AND ME

A series of improvised performances in dialogue with landscape.

The Space Between You and Me is a series of filmed live performances exploring the relationship between sound, landscape, and the experience of being somewhere.

Travelling through Canada, USA, Japan, China, the Philippines, and Thailand, Lodewijk Vos brought a modular synthesizer into vast, open landscapes, creating spontaneous compositions in response to each location.

Lodewijk Vos explored the sonic relationship between ourselves and the space we are in. Each performance is an attempt to capture something intangible — the emotional state that our environment brings to us.

LAZERHARP

Lazer Harp is a six-by-eight-foot harp with lasers for strings. Break a beam with your hand and the room fills with lush, Brian Eno-inspired ambient sound. It’s there for anyone to play, with room for several people at once—encouraging people to experiment and play together.

THINGS I CAN’T TELL YOU

A video installation by Randall Okita exploring transformation, urgency and connection. Two figures move slowly toward one another, almost meeting before drifting apart, in a repeating sequence that contrasts intense imagery with a meditative pace. BE HERE NOW

Feathers, wood, wire, interactive sound and light installation. Be Here Now is an interactive multimedia installation where viewers are urged to strike the artwork to initiate their own experience in the space.
